Uchchamunai Island – Preschool Project
Uchchamunai Island is situated off Kalpitiya and is the largest Island with 176 families residing. Briefly, there are about 90 children including 30 preschool kids and it is needless to mention loads of basic needs are not found in the Island, inclusive of water, electricity and sanitation for the residents. These families purely depend on fishing for their living.
Oslo Boys Foundation in Norway came forward wholeheartedly accepting the invitation of LBR Foundation in Sri Lanka to donate LKR.1,000/- monthly as savings per child for all pre-school children in 2022 which was amounting to LKR.360,000/- for a year, to secure the education of these 30 preschool kids in Uchchamunai Island. Minor Savings Accounts for each child were opened at Sampath Bank Puttalam Branch enabling the children to receive the capital and interest when they attend the age of 18 years. These 30 preschool kids will continue to receive this allowance of LKR.12,000/- each per year until they finish schooling at the age of 18 years, while every year the kids who enroll freshly to the preschool too will receive this allowance of LKR.12,000/- yearly for 3 consecutive years from the ages of 3 – 5 years as a continuation of this Preschool Project which commenced in 2022.
